Fresh Start

The wind blows past my face as I ride my bike to school. Students are pouring into the building as I arrive. The day is young, and the students are tired. But there is still a buzz of excitement among the students and teachers. The air is filled with the sound of hundreds of people talking, some catching up with friends they haven’t seen for two weeks, others meeting some of the new faces of our growing student body. Then, a hush spreads over the room as our principal, Pastor Brad, steps forward to lead us in the first devotion in our new building. Soon devotions are over and it is time to prepare for the first class of the new year. It doesn’t take long, though, for the hallways to become backed up with students. The air is filled with the smell of a hundred people, but the warmth is welcomed after the cool of the gym.
The first four classes go by quickly. Unfortunately, some of the teachers assigned homework. (On the first day? Really?) But soon lunch time arrives, and my desire for food outweighs any disappointment that I have. After that, the rest of the day flies by. More homework, more fun, but now I’m ready to go home.
The hardest part of this day has been breaking out of the old habits developed over vacation of sleeping, watching movies, playing video games, and reading. However, the excitement of our very own school building is some incentive and indication of a fresh start and new beginnings. Now if I can only finish my homewo-- *YAAAAAWWNN*--my……… zzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
